Early Morning Conversations
Me: What’s the matter? Sibling #4: My mouth feels all weird. Me: What’s wrong with it? Sibling #4: I don’t know. It just feels all swabbaly. Only a six year old could have come up with that perfect word to describe the weird feeling you get in your mouth when you first wake up. Swabbaly. So awesome.

Buon Natale
“And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were so afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day...

One And A Half
One and a half days. That’s it. One and a half days of school left before that glorious two weeks of relaxing and presents and family, otherwise known as Winter Break. I don’t know if I’ll make it. They say you can survive one and a half days of just about anything short of having your heart ripped from your chest, but I bet those people never had to write two essays about...

Not Enough
There isn’t enough time. This simple thought is at once a source of dread and excitement. What will I do? Where will I go? I want to do everything. I want to explore ancient ruins and I want to live on a deserted island. I want to eat a real mango and drink from a hollow coconut shell. I want to never see another car or building or paved road again; just endless dewy grass. I want to walk briskly...

I Agree
aliciamarie: Some people are just so irritating these days, or maybe it’s just me. Probably so. Today was a cold, cold day. All I wanted was some tea or hot chocolate. I’m hoping someone will come over and watch Wanted with me, and then we can make smores and hot chocolate (: I asked Jessica, but she’s leaving for Oklahoma :/ That party pooper! -sigh. Everybody keeps asking me about my “love...

Story Time
I truly don’t remember the first book I was read as a child. In fact, I learned to read at a very early age, so most of my reading was done independently. That being said, I do have a vivid memory of my mother staying up late with my sisters and me to read Little House On The Prairie out loud. I loved to imagine myself as Laura Ingalls, playing alongside a covered wagon and helping to...

Fiction
Writing fiction is all about putting yourself into a character or plot line and weaving a story from a different perspective. Fiction must hold truths, but is not necessarily reality. C.S. Lewis put his characters into an imaginary world, but his themes of familial love, sacrifice, and betrayal are all a part of the human experience. A good fiction writer finds the truth in a lie and makes it...

Sucking At Life
Wow. Just wow. Sometimes, out of all the adjectives and nouns that make up the English language, there is only this one word to describe the joys and horrors of being a high school student. I had just barged into Creative Writing class ten minutes late, arms filled with backpack straps, laptop handles, gym bag, and sweatshirt. In my left hand was a pretzel, which remained the only evidence of...
